Trailer Pintle Hitch Extension

The Challenge

The customer requested to have a 20,000lb hitch attached to their truck to tow 2 trailers that didn’t ride well because their pintle hitch on the truck was too high causing their trailer to ride slanted down the road resulting in structural failure on their trailers including axle damage.

The Solution

After consideration, it was decided to fix the two trailers themselves instead of altering the towing vehicle so that the trailers could be towed with any rig. We cut out the existing pintle hitch draw bar that had only 2 slots. We bent up a custom pintle hitch draw bar with over 18″ of vertical adjustment so as to ensure the trailer could be properly towed. We welded the new draw bar onto the trailer after scarfing out the existing one. We finished it off with paint.
